How to Get Your Yard Ready for Spring?

Spring Landscaping Service Tips

When Is It Safe to Plant Annuals Come the Spring?

This is someone our landscaping service is asked from time to time. We at Two Brothers Landscaping and Tree Service tell people that local frost periods will usually determine when it will be safe to plant annuals and vegetables. With regards to annuals, you will be transplanting from either pots, six-packs or flats that you purchased from your local garden center, meaning, they will be safe to plant when the last frost has passed. For seeds which will start to sprout within two weeks, plant the seeds at least 2 weeks before the last frost date.

Old-timers will have their own rules of thumb when it comes to planting times for any given area. For instance, in New England, U.S, gardeners will usually plant their annuals around Memorial Day, which as we all know is in late May. Or, you can find out when the last frost date is by checking with your nearest county extension office.

How and When To Apply Lawn Fertilizers in Spring?

Slow-release lawn fertilizers are often your best bet. So this will answer the how part of the equation. However, what about the “when?” The best time to spread fertilizer will greatly depend on where you live and the type of grass you have. How Often Should You Fertilize Mature Trees?

That older tree that soars majestically in your garden will often seem beyond the need for fertilizers. However, this is not the case. So, the question then is how often should you fertilize mature trees? Well, some recommend you do several feedings every year, but you go lightly with every feeding. In fact, this is sound advice, in general, it is always safer to err on the side of less rather than more, as over-fertilizing can result in significant damage.

If you have any questions, we will be more than happy to answer them all.
